Meet Dr. Hammes

Dr. Dillon Hammes is a licensed chiropractor serving Coralville and the surrounding communities including Iowa City, North Liberty, Tiffin, Solon and more. His mission is to change the way that people view and manage their health, while providing optimum chiropractic care to patients of all ages. He does this in two main ways – speaking and serving.  He uses a “whole person approach” when taking care of his patients. He does this by combining the best of hands-on-techniques with state-of-the-art physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation. He also provides the best natural vitamins and mineral supplements on the market today. Dr. Hammes is able to help you accelerate and maintain your journey to excellent health.

Dr. Hammes is originally from Sigourney, Iowa. He was first referred for chiropractic care at age 16 because of a shoulder injury he suffered playing high school football. Headaches had been something that he dealt with for several years before that, and just accepted that he would have to deal with them for life. His coach recommended he see a chiropractor to treat the cause of the problem, rather than continuing to take Advil to mask the symptoms. His father had been under chiropractic care for several years, so it was easy to go with him for his first visit. After just a few adjustments, his shoulder was doing much better and the headaches went away too! Dr. Hammes learned at a young age the benefits of chiropractic care, but didn’t fully understand how it worked. That is why after his symptoms went away, he stopped getting adjusted.

Dr. Hammes has a background in construction and this helped him to develop a greater understanding of the value of structure. A back injury in 2007 led him back to the chiropractor. During the physical exam, the chiropractor explained the way the body heals itself from above down inside out, and how the skeletal system protects and facilitates this process. He talked about how structure and function are related and how when one is impaired, it affects the other. This level of care and patient education is the reason that Dr. Hammes decided to enroll at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

During his time at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Hammes was very busy, being a member of the men’s rugby club for several seasons.  He also worked as the manager of the Palmer gym/recreation center.  Taking nearly every elective Palmer had to offer, as well as some that they didn’t, Dr. Hammes is well versed in many techniques to accommodate all different types of patients.

Aside from caring for his patients, Dr. Hammes enjoys exercise, reading, cooking (especially on the grill) and most of all he loves spending time with his wife, Alissa, his 3 daughters, Korrah, Lola, and Violet, and their wheaten terrier Atlas.

Dr. Dillon and his team were very thorough and knowledgeable. They made me feel comfortable the entire time I was there. Even the front line staff were very friendly and helpful getting me started. Highly recommended!
